Engineered Veneer Edge Banding — Matched to the Panel, Not Just to the Colour

An edge band that is close in colour is worse than one that is obviously different, because it looks like a mistake rather than a design. We supply engineered veneer banding from the same colour code as the panel, in the same order.

Overview

Edge banding is the last two millimetres of a panel and the first thing a buyer sees when they open a cupboard. In engineered veneer it is produced from the same reconstituted block as the face, which is the only way to get the grain direction and the colour to run on from face to edge.

The variables are few but each one bites: thickness decides how much abuse the edge takes, width has to cover the panel thickness plus trimming allowance, and the adhesive decides whether the band survives a hot press or a humid warehouse. Pre-glued banding suits smaller shops; plain banding on a PUR line gives a tighter, more waterproof joint.

Because banding is cheap relative to the panel, it is usually bought with the boards rather than separately — and that is exactly when mismatches happen, if the two come from different suppliers. We keep the colour code on file with the panel specification and order both against it.

What You Specify

ParameterWhat you setWhy it matters
Thickness0.15–1.0 mm (common 0.4–0.45 mm)Thin veneer bends around the edge without cracking
Width10–400 mm (common 15–22 mm, 40 mm), cut to orderSet by panel thickness and the edgebanding method
Length100 m or 200 m per rollStandard roll packing
Veneer matchSame engineered veneer as the panel — oak, walnut, ash, teak and moreSame grain and colour as the face, repeated across the batch
Minimum orderBy roll / by colour — ask for the current minimumLower minimum than PVC banding
Lead timeabout 15–20 daysSteadier when ordered with the panel

Banding is ordered against the same colour code as the panel. If the panel specification is not on file, send a physical sample and we match to that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you match banding to my panel?

By colour code where the panel came from a mill that keeps one, and by physical sample where it did not. A photograph is not a match — screens and lighting shift colour, so the approval is always against a piece you can hold.

Should I buy pre-glued or plain banding?

Pre-glued is the practical choice for smaller shops and short runs. If you run a PUR or laser edgebander, plain banding gives a better joint and a more moisture-resistant seam. Tell us which machine you run and the answer follows.

What thickness do I need?

It depends on where the edge sits. Interior cabinet edges that are rarely touched take thin banding; edges on doors, shelves and worktops take heavier banding because they absorb impact. We quote the options rather than pick for you.

Can banding be supplied in the same container as the boards?

Yes, and it is the cheaper way to buy it. Banding travels well, takes little space, and arriving with the panels means the colour code is the same on both.

What is the minimum order?

It follows the mill's minimum run for that colour and thickness. Because banding is usually added to a panel order, the practical minimum is often set by the container rather than by the banding itself. Ask and we will quote against your actual quantity.
